AIYEP Work Experience

Organisations in Australia and Indonesia support the Australia-Indonesia Youth Program ( AIYEP) by offering participants a short term work experience placement.

In 2025, we are seeking organisations in Melbourne to host AIYEP participants from Indonesia on a

three-week placement from 27 October to 14 November 2025.

A work placement is a key learning experience for AIYEP participants. Australian and Indonesian organisations offer in-country placements to individual participants who work on a project for three weeks. Fostering the cross cultural learning aspects of the program, Indonesian participants are hosted by Australian organisations while Australian participants undertake their placement with an Indonesian organisation.

AIYEP participants come from a variety of professional and educational backgrounds. Value Learning supports each organisation to develop a suitable workplan while guiding participants on workplace norms and expectations. The organisations listed below have offered past and possible work opportunities to AIYEP.

Why offer a short term work placement ?

For Australian organisations this program offers the opportunity to engage in a high quality personal, cultural and professional exchange, sharing their experience of diverse aspects of Australian work culture with young representatives from Indonesia. In 2025, this experience will take place over three weeks in Melbourne and participants are expected to engage in 30 hours of work per week during the full time placement.

What does an
AIYEPer do during the work placement?

AIYEPers will work in organisations in Melbourne while developing intercultural skills and learning about Australian work and organisational culture.

Value Learning provides support for you to develop a work plan suitable for an AIYEP placement, and we also support and train AIYEPers in Australian workplace norms and expectations.

About the AIYEPers

The Indonesian delegates come from a variety of professional and educational backgrounds and cultural regions of Indonesia.

They are university educated graduates or students in education, international relations, engineering, health sciences, law, business, IT, communications and other fields.

Why should I host an AIYEPer in my workplace?

Hosting an AIYEPer in your workplace gives you and your colleagues the opportunity to engage with people from another culture.

Your workplace will contribute to Australia’s bilateral relations with Indonesia, and you may even be able to develop new avenues for your organisations’ external relations.

What is the specific schedule?

Work placements will take place in Melbourne between 27 October to 14 November 2025.

AIYEPers are expected to spend a minimum of 30 hours a week working in the allocated organisation.

What sort of work can AIYEPers be involved in?

As part of the work placement, AIYEPers could be involved in teaching assistance, research, administrative tasks or contribute to a specific project in your organisation.

Hosting an AIYEP participant in your workplace presents a fabulous opportunity to explore new areas or projects that can complement the work of your office.

Do I provide payment
or a stipend?

AIYEPers are participating in a fully-funded cultural experience.

Remuneration for AIYEPers includes the experience participants will gain through the placement and host family opportunity.

As a result, work placements are not to be financially remunerated.

Can I provide more than one work placement?

You can absolutely host more than one AIYEP participant. Many past organisations have hosted more than one AIYEPer and have a great experience in doing so!

Multiple work placements in the one organisation are encouraged but each AIYEPer must meet a minimum of 30 hours of work within the organisation each week.

What support is offered ?

Host organisations will be able to contact us at any time during office hours should they have any questions or queries prior to and during the hosting experience.
